The funeral started at 9:00 am, from the Military Hospital in Mezzeh to Beirut Street, then al-Nasr Street. The Deputy Chief of Staff's casket, draped with the Syrian Flag, was carried on a cannon-wagon, while the Musical Band played a solemn tune. Two units walked before the procession, Malkis portrait and war medals. Leading the funeral was a representative of President Hashem al-Atasi, along with Chief-of-Staff General Shawkat Shuqayr, and his Lebanese counterpart Tawfiq Salem. The wagon stopped at the entrance of the Hamidieh Market, and Malki's casket was carried on foot toward the Umayyad Mosque. It was carried back escorted by 14 officers carrying swords, one for each unit of the Syrian Army. The funeral then proceeded through the Hijaz Station, Victoria Bridge, Salhieh, Arnous, Jisr al-Abyad, until reaching the Malki family cemetery in al-Muhajreen. Later, the body was transported to the Malki Mausoleum, where a statue in his honor was erected, made by artist Fathi Kabawah.
