Abdul Hamid al-Sarraj, the ex-director of intelligence and information minister in the United Arab Republic, was arrested on war crimes after break-up of the union regime. President Nasser had him smuggled out of the Mezzeh Prison and brought to his home in Cairo. He remained a guest of the Egyptian government until his death in September 2013.
