Ibrahim al-Shallah, pictured here within Parliament with Syrian Boy Scouts, was one of the guards of the Syrian Parliament when it was bombed and invaded by French troops on May 29, 1945. Shallah's comrades were murdered in cold blood, and he played dead, surviving to tell the tale until his own death 57-years later, in 2002.
