Nuri al-Ftayyeh began his political career as a deputy in the Ottoman Parliaent in 1908. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed, he joined the Arab Government of King Faisal I in Damascus, serving on the first Constitutional Assembly, charged with drafting a royalist charter for Syria. In 1932, along with President Hashem al-Atasi, he co-founded the National Bloc in Homs and became "dean" of its branch in Deir ez-Zour. Nuri al-Ftayyeh was voted into Parliament in 1932. He died at the age of 75 in 1957.
