In the post-Nasser period (1961-1963), Abdul Karim Zahr al-Din became Chief-of-Staff of the Syrian Army but was dismissed by the Baathists when they came to power in 1963. In this postcard from Paris, Zahr al-Din is congratulating Ziad al-Atasi, the director of Military Transport, on his re-instatement in the Syrian Army after the downfall of Adib al-Shishakli in February 1954. Zahr al-Din at the time was pursing his military training in France.
