Subhi al-Omari was one of the prime officers of the Arab Revolt of 1916-1920 and one of the co-founders of the Syrian Army. He fought at the Battle of Maysaloun in 1920 and fled to Jordan and Iraq after the Syrian defeat, helping establish the Iraqi Army with King Faisal I.
