The Legion of Honour (Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur) was given to the Syrian businessman by French President Francois Mitterrand on May 10, 1988. Uthman al-Aidi was a major investor in France, having established the world-famous Le Royal Monceau, a 5-star hotel in Paris.
