The photo, a rare one in colors, was taken while Syria and Egypt were announcing creation of the United Arab Republic (UAR) in February 1958. Fourth from left is UAR Vice President Akram al-Hawrani. Standing next to him are President Nasser, Syrian Prime Minister Sabri al-Asali, who also became Vice-President of the UAR, and Salah al-Bitar, Syria's Foreign Minister who became Minister of Culture in the UAR. Fourth from right is Egyptian Parliamentary Speaker Anwar al-Sadat, and second from right is Marshal Abdul Hakim Amer, Nasser's right-hand-man who became governor of the Syrian province during the UAR.
