Prime Minister Rida Pasha al-Rikabi, in a very rare photograph in Western suite, different from his usual military uniform. Rikabi was a senior officer in the Ottoman Army, then joined the Arab Army of King Faysal, becoming military governor of Syria when the Ottomans evacuated in 1918. He created two cabinets under King Faysal in 1918-1920 and was then exiled to Jordan by the French, where he also became prime minister, returning to Syria to nominate himself for the presidency, and lose, in 1932.
