One of the few photos of Bahij al-Khatib, the Head of the Government of Directors (a replacement of the normal cabinet) created under emergency rule during World War II. Khatib was a ruthless man who terrorized the Syrians during his tenure in office from July 1939 to April 1941. His main goal was to prevent Nazi infiltration to Syria.
