Dr Mohammad al-Fadel (1917-1977), the rector of Damascus University in 1976-1977 who was one of the most prominent legal minds of Syria in the 1960s. A professor of law, dean of the faculty, attorney, and minister of justice in 1966, he was assassinated on the campus of Damascus University while on the way to his office on February 22, 1976.
