A contingent of the Egyptian Army parading through Damascus during the celebrations of Syria's first independence day on April 17, 1946. They were sent to Syria under orders from King Farouk to take part in the festivities. The man leading the parade is Husayn al-Shafii, who later joined the Free Officers in Egypt and toppled Farouk in 1952, then becoming vice-president to President Gamal Abd al-Nasser.
