The bodies of three Syrian rebels hanged in Marjeh Square during the Syrian Revolt of 1925-1928. To the far right is Hasan al-Kharrat, a young man from Shaghur who took up arms against the French and co-planned the rebel takeover of Damascus on October 18, 1925. This led to a massive air raid on Damascus and the killing of around 600 civilians. Kharrat was arrested and hanged under orders from the French High Commissioner Maurice Sarrail.
