Then stands Comte Henri de Martel, the French High Commissioner to Syria, President Hashem al-Atasi, a Frenchman, Saadallah al-Jabiri, Fares al-Khury, and Mustapha al-Shihabi. Interestingly, these men never walked out of their homes in the 1930s without a fez. In Paris, all of them abandoned the Turkish headgear in favor of French hats.
